Embark on an unforgettable expedition aboard Sea Breeze III, cruising through the stunning and remote islands of the Hauraki Gulf. Departing from Viaduct Harbour Marina in Auckland’s City of Sails, this journey takes us to the untamed beauty of Great Barrier Island and Great Mercury Island, offering a perfect blend of coastal exploration, relaxation, and adventure.
This expedition includes sailing past Little Barrier Island, one of New Zealand’s most significant wildlife sanctuaries, before reaching the rugged and breathtaking landscapes of Great Barrier Island. Over the course of the voyage, we’ll experience multiple anchorage stops, allowing for exploration ashore, scenic hikes, and immersion in the island’s natural beauty.
The remoter islands of the Hauraki Gulf are teeming with birdlife, marine life, and untouched wilderness, making this passage an ideal escape from city life. Whether you're relaxing on deck, taking in dramatic coastal scenery, or venturing ashore to discover white sand beaches, hot springs, and lush bush walks, this expedition provides the perfect mix of adventure and serenity.
With a flexible itinerary based on prevailing weather and activities, we’ll plan our stops to maximise the best experiences on offer. Evenings will be spent enjoying barbecues, fresh seafood, and roast dinners, all while anchored in idyllic locations with breathtaking sunsets. The journey concludes with a scenic return sail into Viaduct Harbour Marina, marking the end of an extraordinary exploration of the Hauraki Gulf’s most treasured islands.

Waikawa 2-berth suite
Kiwitahi 2-berth suite
The guest suites and stateroom are situated on Sea Breeze III’s lower level and include 6 berths in total. Note: The Waikawa and Kiwitahi Suites will be increased to 4 berths per cabin in early 2025, with 2 bunks installed above the existing 2 berths in each suite. These suites can currently be booked on a per person basis, or as a private cabin for up to 2 guests.
EXPEDITION DESCRIPTION
Departing Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour, Sea Breeze III will set course toward Little Barrier Island, a protected nature reserve known for its diverse seabird population and dramatic forested terrain. As we cruise past, we’ll take in its untouched beauty before heading further offshore to Great Barrier Island, one of New Zealand’s most secluded and rugged island destinations.
Our circumnavigation of Great Barrier and Great Mercury Islands will feature a variety of stops at picturesque anchorages, allowing time to explore the coastline, relax in pristine natural surroundings, and experience the islands’ unique landscapes. Expect opportunities to:
Swim in crystal-clear waters and relax on remote white-sand beaches
Hike scenic tracks, including coastal trails and rainforest walks
Soak in natural hot springs, tucked away in the heart of the island
Paddleboard or kayak in sheltered bays and coves
Encounter rich marine life, including dolphins, seabirds, and seals
