Olivia Carrigan

Growing up on the Puget Sound in Seattle, Washington, Olivia developed a love for the ocean from an early age. Her passion for the sea led her to Hawaiʻi, where she pursued her studies at university and quickly discovered the joys of sailing in an attempt to find more ways to spend time with the ocean. Her professional sailing career started aboard charter boats, leading day sails, freediving and exploring Oʻahu’s hidden reefs.

Olivia’s sailing journey took a significant turn when she joined a tall ship as 2nd mate, where she sailed around the Hawaiian Islands while helping to train the next generation of maritime professionals. After a taste of sailing offshore, Olivia took an opportunity to spend several months exploring the North Pacific and the San Juan Islands aboard a Challenge 72—seeing her home from a new perspective, and the rest of the West coast of the States. This confirmed her love of exploring offshore, and was encouraged by her skipper to pursue her qualifications and continue her sailing career. Olivia ventured to Cowes, UK, for sail training in the cold, windswept waters of the Solent. There, she sharpened her skills in one of the most renowned sailing regions in the world, navigating the challenging waters of the English Channel and further solidifying her experience in offshore and coastal navigation.

When she’s not on the water, Olivia can be found exploring the mountains surrounding her home on Lake Pend Oreille, free diving in any water warm enough not to require a wetsuit, or indulging in her love of crafting. Whether it’s on the open ocean or at home, Olivia is always seeking new horizons and experiences to share with others.
