A 2 week expedition from Hobart around to the Southwest and West Coast of Tasmania with 60% of the time will be spent exploring ashore, kayaking, hiking and stand-up paddle boarding.

Join us on an immersive 800NM journey as we embark on an extraordinary sailing expedition from the historic port city of Hobart, Tasmania. This adventure will take us on an unforgettable voyage along the Southwest and West Coast of Tasmania, where the rich tapestry of history and culture will be interwoven with awe-inspiring landscapes and unique experiences. Our itinerary includes 6-8 carefully chosen stops, subject to weather conditions, including anchorages along the South-east and South Coast, Bathurst Harbour, Port Davey, Strahan, and exploration of the Gordon and Franklin Rivers before we return to Hobart. Each destination promises its own treasure trove of sights and experiences waiting to be discovered.

Our journey begins in Hobart, a city steeped in maritime history and the gateway to Tasmania's natural wonders. Tasmania's Southwest and West Coast are regions of untamed beauty, where wilderness reigns supreme. The history of these regions is deeply entwined with the indigenous cultures of the Palawa people and the European exploration and colonization that followed.

The Palawa people have inhabited Tasmania for over 40,000 years, nurturing a rich cultural heritage. Their connection to the land and sea is evident in their art, stories, and spiritual beliefs. As we sail through these waters, we pay homage to the traditional custodians of this land and acknowledge the enduring legacy of their culture.

European exploration of Tasmania began in the late 18th century, with seafaring adventurers charting unknown shores. The tales of shipwrecks, explorations, and pioneering settlements form the backdrop of our expedition. We follow in the wake of these early explorers, exploring the same rugged coastlines and pristine waters that have both challenged and inspired generations.

South-east and South Coast Anchorages

Our journey begins with the South-east and South Coast anchorages, where you'll witness the rugged splendor of Tasmania's shoreline. As we approach, you'll be greeted by towering cliffs, their ancient stone bearing witness to countless eons of natural forces at work. Here, the sound of waves crashing against the rocks will serenade you as you take coastal walks, where the salt-tinged breeze invigorates your senses. Bathurst Harbour

Port Davey

ITINERY

You'll fly into Hobart on the 18th of January 2025. We'll have a crew welcome dinner that night and complete final preparations for departure the next day. On the 19th of January we'll depart Hobart and head for our first of many stopovers. You are welcome to stay onboard on the night of the 18th of January, but if you plan to arrive prior to the 18th, you will need to arrange accommodation ashore. 

We’ll aim to be tied up back in Hobart by 3pm on the 30th of January for our final crew dinner and you can plan to depart Hobart from the 31st of January onwards.

Inclusions

Your crew package includes; all meals onboard, crew meals in Hobart and various stopover ports, accommodation onboard, your Ocean Sailing Expeditions crew shirt, marina fees, the use of a PFD (personal flotation device), PLB (personal locator beacon), and a safety tether. Your bedding, a pillow and towel are also included along with suncream.

Exclusions

Your crew package excludes; accommodation ashore, flights and transport to and from departure and arrival ports, alcohol, toiletries, clothing and wet weather gear.
